# Terms of Use

## 0. Preamble

Swiss-AL Workbench is a web tool developed by ZHAW Digital Discourse Lab for analyzing multilingual corpora. It provides access to aggregated data extracted from texts from Swiss public communication.

## 1. Acceptance of Terms

**1.1** Using the Workbench constitutes agreement to the Terms of Use.

## 2. Access to Swiss-AL Workbench

**2.1** Full access to the Workbench is granted to users authenticated via Switch edu-ID.  
**2.1.1** Users authenticated with Switch edu-ID are requested to register their research project and specify its duration before using the platform.  
**2.1.2** Accounts cannot be shared or transferred.

**2.2** Limited access (to demo corpora only) is granted to both authenticated and unauthenticated users.

## 3. Permitted Uses

**3.1** The use of the Workbench is granted for research and academic purposes only.  
**3.2** The use of the Workbench is not granted for commercial purposes.

## 4. Data Sharing

**4.1** Intellectual property rights for the corpus data (texts) processed by the Workbench belong to third-party contributors. Swiss-AL Workbench only provides aggregated data and other corpus derivatives to the users (frequency tables, diagrams, word clouds, etc.).

**4.2** Users are permitted to share aggregated data and other corpus derivatives produced by the Swiss-AL Workbench under the following conditions:

- The data is redistributed for research and academic purposes only.  
- The attribution is given to the creator of aggregated data (ZHAW, Digital Discourse Lab).

## 5. Privacy Policy

**5.1** Users’ data is collected to facilitate account creation and enable contact in the event of relevant changes to the platform or users’ accounts.

**5.2** The following personal data is collected during registration:
- first name
- last name
- e-mail address
- institution

**5.3** Users’ data is not shared with third parties.  
**5.4** Users have the option to request the deletion of all data linked to their account.  
**5.5** Swiss-AL Workbench does not process personal data of unauthenticated users.

## 6. Disclaimer of Warranties

**6.1** The platform is provided "as is" without guarantees of accuracy, availability, or fitness for a specific purpose.

## 7. Termination

**7.1** The account or access to the platform may be terminated in case of:
- Violations of the Terms of Use;
- Platform misuse.

## 8. Changes to Terms of Use

**8.1** We reserve the right to update the Terms of Use.  
**8.2** Users will be notified of changes through announcements on the platform as well as via the email address registered in the user’s Switch edu-ID.
